I’m hanging out on the interweb today and all of a sudden it hit me: lists are GREAT.  It’s also the annual weblog award season, which I always count on to find new things to add to my Reader.  So below, I’m giving a full rundown of the pages we (me, Matt, the goggies) call regulars.  In celebration, I’ve updated the links on the right too!  So here it is, the top most important, most specialist websites they ever made based on science and fact.

Local Blogs I heart them. I use them as my main source of local news. Sadly there are times I consider their writers to be my friends, despite knowing nothing about them personally nor having met them in real life.  But yeah. If you don’t live in a place that has a plethora of local blogs, you should consider yourself so unlucky.  Prince of Petworth focuses on my neighborhood and is my current must have.

Best Blog With Food In It I fancy myself a good cook and consider the act to be in my top two list of things I love doing as often as possible.  Sadly I have neither enough time some nights (what with the house stuff and social life) nor enough money to make everything I want to, so my recipes are relatively tame (although I make kick ass pad thai).  The one blog that doesn’t make me feel like a worthless cook (I’m looking at YOU smitten kitchen) is Pioneer Woman Cooks.  No nonsense I tell you.  Bacon wrapped jalepenos with cream cheese- now what is wrong with that?

Blog I Would Never Link to But Still Secretly Read I’m not proud of it. I sometimes speak in LOL in real life (IRL).  I actually say things like “oh em jee!”  I can haz cheezburger? and their cousin site I haz a hot dog.

Blog That Makes Me Want to Do a Better Job (at life) This is a tough category (I know, I picked the categories, I like to challenge myself) because, let’s face it, we read people’s personal blogs because we either a. want to make fun of their sad lives or b. wish we could be just like them in some way or another.  I could not narrow it down to one, but the funny thing is, these two writers actually inspire me for very similar reasons: both live their lives in the best way they know how (mistakes are painstakingly documented, analyzed, and learned from), have found themselves a career which provides them opportunities to work doing the things they are passionate about (art, creativity, family, etc.) and both are hilariously funny at points reminding me why I was ever friends with them in the first place (yes, these are people who I am really friends with outside the internet).  I wish I could be Mandy Steward and Lyndsey Teter.

Best New Discovery a la Christobal Colon This blog has totally been around since like the internet started (see also, category below) but evidently I am way WAY behind.  Television Without Pity covers your basic needs: holy crap I can’t believe I forgot Heroes was on last night, what happened? to OMG did you see Grey’s last night? OMG what was that about??? My mom beat me there and sent me a link earlier this year, which I followed, and promptly deleted my old feed and replaced it with TWP.  Yessss. TV rulesssss….

I Read a Mommy Blog Who doesn’t read dooce, anyway?

Website Most Useful When Entertaining We’ve recently started collecting liquors. I know this comes as no surprise to many readers, I love myself a beverage, but I’m traditionally a cold beer/frosty mug person rather than a fruity and refreshing cocktail drinker.  Because of this my liquor collection has been nothing due to my lack of inspirational mixes.  In comes The Webtender, which is basically the knowledge of a multitude of actual (IRL) bartenders who have contributed their great cocktails.  The best feature ever invented is the section where you enter everything you have in your bar (and fridge and pantry) click OK and it lists zillions of recipes you can make with the things you already have.  Our favorite discovery has been the Salty Chihuahua, for obvious reasons.

Best Website Matt Goes to That Isn’t Pron Firefox has a button up there that tells you your most visited websites (for those curious, number 1 is gmail) and constantly in the top five (Matt and I share a computer by the way, so if you’ve sent me nudie photos and I haven’t responded, that’s why) is The Warpath.  I feel my knowledge is lacking on this category, but on season or off, there are evidently useful things to learn here on all things Redskins.  Plus, you can screw with other fans and trash talk live on the discussion boards; caution: this could piss you off.

What A Dog Wants I know the dogs don’t use the mac (to my knowledge?) and I know they could care less about how artsy and unique their shirts/toys/harnesses are, but I like to think they have some level of intelligence (have you ever gazed into their thoughtful, bulgy eyes???? That’s GOD back there!).  Regardless, their mommy cares and buys only the finest for her Prince and Princess.  Barkability helps me keep track of all the latest for my little babies, and by that I mean, feeds my sick obsession with my dogs.

So, there it is. The things I look at that don’t involve purchase requests, enterprise document management or outlook. I think you should all be just like me!
